Angie at the helm

Liverpool’s Cruise Manager has been chosen to take on one of the most prestigious positions in Britain’s cruise industry.

Angie Redhead has been named Chair of CruiseBritain which is a joint initiative between British ports and cruise industry service providers and is supported by Visit Britain and Visit England.

The three-year tenure, will see Angie support Cruise Britain’s aims to raise the profile of Britain as a world-class cruise destination and promote cruise holidays as an integral part of the leisure travel market.

Angie said: “I am delighted to take on the challenge of Chair of CruiseBritain at a time when the UK cruise offer is stronger than ever and our potential is at its greatest.

“UK ports are all working together to enhance our offer to both the passenger and the cruise line and I am really looking forward to the challenge and opportunity during my time as Chair.

“I have already suggested that a Liverpool based members meeting take place in the Cunard Building – can there be a more fitting venue for our members than the very building where cruise liner shipping really took off from?”

Assistant Mayor and cabinet member for culture, tourism and events, Councillor Wendy Simon, said: “This is a huge coup for Liverpool to have someone from our cruise team take such a senior role in this well thought-of association.

“Angie’s knowledge of, and passion for the industry knows no bounds and she is a well-known and respected individual in the cruise community.

“This role is an acknowledgement of her influence and standing, and I couldn’t think of anyone better to be an ambassador for Liverpool in this venture.”

One of Angie’s first key meetings will be to represent CruiseBritain at the European Sea Port Organisation (ESPO) meeting in Brussels in July where she will lead a working group consisting of representatives from Cruise Baltic, Cruise Europe, Cruise Norway and MedCruise. The aim to develop a Code of Practice specific to ‘Relationship between Port, City and Destination’.

Angie added: “I consider Liverpool’s partnership working to be one of our key strengths in ensuring a fantastic ship, passenger and crew experience for all who visit here so feel confident we cannot only contribute invaluable experience to this, but also learn from other ports with very strong destination offers.”

Outgoing Chair, Daren Taylor, said: ‘CruiseBritain is a thriving organisation that works to raise the profile of Britain as a cruise destination.

“I’ve enjoyed my time at the helm and wish Angie every success; her appointment has the unanimous support of CruiseBritain’s Steering Group.

“Angie has been enormously successful in her work for Liverpool itself and is also a tireless and positive ambassador for Britain. Her experience in the cruise industry, plus the wider travel business, will be of great value to CruiseBritain and I feel absolutely confident that Angie’s passion for the industry will enable our organisation to continue to flourish.

“The cruise industry has great potential for Britain’s ports, destinations and services. Each cruise ship call can bring significant revenue into the port and surrounding area and we are working with both VisitBritain and VisitEngland to increase Britain’s share of the Northern European day call market.”
