Magic on the Mersey

It is estimated 100,000 people packed out Liverpool Pier Head to see the magnificent Disney Magic cruise liner on Sunday 12 June.

Adults and children dressed up in their best Disney outfits for a day of Disney-themed activities to celebrate the luxury ship returning to Liverpool for her second visit.

The special events laid on by the City included an outdoor cinema showing some fabulous Disney classics throughout the day including Frozen, Finding Nemo, Toy Story and Mary Poppins.

A Victorian bandstand had live performances throughout the day, with the Royal Marines Band Scotland playing a very special Disney medley and performances from opera singer Danielle Thomas, Liverpool’s Ukulele Orchestra and Liverpool’s very own Princesses as well as a specially commissioned ‘Magic Garden’

Head of Cruise Operations, Angie Redhead said “As soon as we announced last year that Disney were calling to the city twice this summer, the buzz, anticipation and expectation was palpable so we just knew we had to throw an extra special welcome, something that both the passengers and spectators would love. We sprinkled our own magic on Sunday and the waterfront just came alive with a free event for all the family to enjoy together. The feedback from passengers and crew has been overwhelming…they can’t believe how many people have turned out to welcome them!’

Everyone who came along embraced fancy dress – age was no barrier! Following an afternoon of fun, a magnificent fireworks display signalled the moment the vessel sailed away, happily ever after.

Disney Magic will return to Liverpool in 2017 and the city have already decided they will be repeating this event due to the fabulous feedback received from all who attended.
