Maritime Ambassador of the Year 2016 –  Angie Redhead

Mersey Maritime, the organisation which represents the interests of a maritime cluster of more than 1,700 businesses in the North West of England, recently announced the winners of this year’s Mersey Maritime Industry Awards (MMIAs) at a black tie dinner.

The judges’ award for Maritime Ambassador is decided each year by an independent judging panel, which was unanimous in picking Angie Redhead, Head of Cruise Operations at Liverpool Cruise Terminal as its 2016 winner.

The award recognises Ms Redhead’s decade-long commitment to the development of a thriving cruise industry in Liverpool and her central role in bringing Cunard’s ‘Three Queens’ spectacular to the River Mersey in May 2015.

The award was sponsored and presented by Andrew Hart of Liverpool Football Club who said:  “In the past 10 years we have witnessed the development of Liverpool’s cruise offering from ambitious plan to successful reality. Since the cruise terminal opened in 2007, the port has renewed its links with the great ocean liners of the world and has seen year-on-year increases in the number of cruise ships visiting our great city. There can be no doubt that a huge part of this success is down to Angie. Under Angie’s guidance, enthusiasm and sheer dedication to the task, the cruise terminal has restored the city’s prestigious position on the international cruise map. Anyone who meets Angie can’t help but be enthused by her passion for the industry. She is the face of Liverpool’s cruise industry and the backbone in its spectacular success.”

Angie Redhead said: “I am proud and privileged to be part of such a thriving, dynamic and forward thinking maritime community as we have here on the River Mersey and I am humbled and flattered to be presented with this award for doing something I feel so passionately about, in the city I love. I am really looking forward to our continued growth and success in the future as we develop plans for a new, larger cruise terminal.”
